What Is It About?

The Canang email list is a forum in which is discussed the life and ministry of the Anglican Church of Canada. The list offers a lovely window on the world of the church. It is a forum for the discussion of theology, history, liturgy, spirituality, social justice and other topics from the point of view of Canadian Anglicanism. It is intended to foster communication among Canadian Anglicans and others, and will provide an opportunity for networking, sharing of information and ideas and research collaboration. It is also a place to share joys and pains, and to just visit and get to know each other.

Of course, all are welcome, whether Canadians or not, whether Anglicans or not. If you want to have an idea of scope of the list, you may want to consult our archives.

The list started in June 1995. Until September 2004, it was under the loving care and guidance of Bob Chandler. It is now administered by Bruce Ganton.

How Does It Work?

The list is a mailing list. It means that you first need to subscribe. Once you do so, you will read the contents of the discussions and participate in it via email. The list volume varies a lot, but one may expect on average 2-10 messages a day.

A Few Tips for a Pleasant Experience

The list can be very busy at times. Don't try to read and digest everything as it will overwhelm you. Select those threads that interest you.

Do not make ad hominem remarks (throwing insults at others in the discussion). We sometimes discuss issues that are very important to us or very close to home. It can be frustrating when others don't immediately succumb to our brilliant argument. Resist the temptation to start a "flame war".

Keep posts reasonably short and try to add to the discussion rather than repeating previous argument.

Spam is not appreciated on most lists. Spam is any unrequested solicitation or advertising for products or services, whether free or not. So please resist the temptation to recommend products or services, no matter how beneficial you may think such to be.

Avoid including photos and HTML code (like fancy backgrounds) in your emails. This greatly increases the size of emails. Besides, some members cannot read them easily, especially those who read the list on mobile devices (like telephones).

We are in communion with them.

–   Anglicans Online

A very comprehensive website that covers almost everything Anglican in the world. Yet, it is independent from any national Church. Here are a few intersting pages:

–   To find a church in Canada: only churches with a web presence are listed, but you may find others through their diocesan web page

–   Online Resources

–   Mailing Lists and Web Forums: if you look for other places to discuss your faith
